In the framework of the EAA online seminars, the seminar untitled “The future of standard-setting and reporting in the public sector” took place on the 5th of October 2022. The seminar was co-organized by Sandra Cohen, Maria Francesca Sicilia and Isabel Brusca, based on an idea originally launched by Ileana Steccolini, and it has been supported by the EAA and its President, Annalisa Prencipe.

In the seminar the six panelists (in alphabetic order) Ian Carruthers, Carolyn Cordery, Susana Jorge, Francesca Manes Rossi, Nils Soguel and John Verrinder shared their ideas and views in a thought provoking and pragmatic way which resulted in lively multifaceted debate upon two main questions:

  1. The evolution of the scope of both financial and non-financial standards
  2. The governance of the standard setting process with a specific focus on the role of academics in this process and the related challenges.
